Taggart producers have revealed that the 100th episode of the hit crime series will not feature a murder.
The landmark episode, which is scheduled to be aired in the summer, will see the first time that the detectives have not had to deal with a fresh murder in twenty five years of the show.
The Taggart team, including Blythe Duff and Alex Norton, will focus on the investigation of a unsolved suspicious death, according to a report in the Daily Record.
A show insider revealed: "The detectives aren't dealing with a murder in the here and now in the 100th episode.
"There is a murder in the episode, but it's dealt with in flashback.
So it happened years before."
The insider claimed that bosses at stv hope that the quirky plotline will help the show to maintain its six million viewers and win further commissions from ITV.
The show continues to capture the interest of the viewing public and was voted the all-time favourite programme on stv on a recent online poll.
Blythe Duff said: "I'm absolutely delighted that Taggart won the viewers' vote, especially as we were up against so many brilliant programmes.
"A big thank you to all Taggart fans out there for casting your votes and for helping to keep the show so popular!"
Colin McCredie said: "We've had a fantastic year on the show with the 25th anniversary and the 100th episode, and this is the icing on the cake.
"It's fantastic that Taggart continues to entertain viewers year after year - I look forward to lots of new `whodunits' in 2009!"
