Britain's Got Talent star faces competition from his wife

Britain's Got Talent's daredevil escapologist Merlin Cadogan has revealed that he faces competition in the next round of the talent show from his wife.

Cadogan, the self-styled "modern Houdini" went through to the next stage of the contest after wowing the theatre audience and judging panel with his dangerous underwater escapology routine on Saturday night's show.

But he told The Sun that he faces strong competition from his wife Sarah who also entered the contest.

Merlin said: "My wife Sarah is a fabulous singer - far and away the best singer in the land, I think.

"It was her decision to send some application forms off to the show, and we both got through to auditions."

The magician also revealed that Sarah used to be his glamorous assistant.

He explained: "My wife was my original partner on this and we practiced every day for months.

"Just two days before the audition, when she realised she couldn't do it any more, I called in a new assistant, the lovely Teff."

Cadogan recently told Phillip Schofield on This Morning that he will perform a "spectacular" and "dangerous" act if he gets through to the semi-finals.

He said: "I have a couple of things up my sleeve and I am not allowed to say what I will be doing at this stage but I can assure you it will be dangerous!"
