Simon Cowell has denied that he was angry over Susan Boyle's decision to have a makeover.
The 49-year-old Britain's Got Talent boss said that he had expected that she would take steps to improve her image.
Susan recently told the Daily Mirror that she thought that the television cameras had made her look like a "garage".
She said: "They say that television makes you look fat and it certainly did. I looked like a garage.
"It was mortifying to see and a bit of a shock. I didn't realise I could reduce people to tears and I hope it wasn't because of that."
Cowell told Entertainment Tonight: "First of all, she is a woman, and I think anybody who was subject to the kind of comments that she received is going to go: 'You know what? Maybe I should do something about the way I look.'
He added: "She was probably swooped on by about a million colourists who want to make a name for themselves."
