Emmerdale 40th: Lucy Pargeter reveals details of Chas’ live wedding to Dan

Chas Dingle’s wedding to Dan Spencer will be anything but smooth in the eagerly awaited 40th anniversary live episode of Emmerdale, Lucy Pargeter has revealed.

The actress, who plays the role of the hopeless-in-love barmaid, will be seen preparing to tie the knot with her latest squeeze Dan Spencer (Liam Fox), on the night of the live episode later this month.

The couple's nuptials will be staged in a joint wedding with Katie Sugden (Sammy Winward) and Declan Macey (Jason Merrells) – and it looks like it’s going to be a dramatic affair.

In an exclusive interview with stv.tv’s Gill Harvey, Lucy said: “The wedding is very much the rich versus the poor. Of course, Katie and Declan are getting married as well, lord and lady of the manor with all the money, versus the poor people. And I’m even poorer because I’m being blackmailed by Carl and having to find the money for that.

“So the budget for our day is getting smaller and smaller but it’s about them, it’s about their day and it’s about them declaring their kind-of love for each other.”

As if things aren’t bad enough for Chas, a run-in with fellow bride Katie is set to add more tension on the day, with Lucy admitting “all is not well in the church” by the end.

The live episode – which boasts two weddings, two births and one shock death – is set to be spectacular, but setting something of this scale up creates a whole manner of challenges for the team behind-the-scenes.

The wardrobe department is one that will be truly tested as they prepare to clothe the actors, who will be playing out their scenes live, while exposed to the elements in a rural setting just outside of Leeds in the middle of October.

“The dress it has to be practical. I’ve had five made because we have the live, in case it’s raining on the night, if I fall over, or if we do a stunt and it goes wrong,” Lucy revealed.

And what exactly will her latest wedding gown look like?

“It’s a cross between Lipsy, Little Mermaid and Big Fat Gypsy Wedding,” Lucy said. We can’t wait to see it!
