Pop star Tony Hadley has said that One Direction should have been chosen to perform at the opening ceremony of the London Olympics.
The Spandau Ballet singer told a radio station that the boyband should have been chosen to close last week's ceremony instead of Sir Paul McCartney.
The 80`s star told Absolute Radio that director Danny Boyle should have chosen the youngsters.
He told Absolute Radio: "If I'm honest I would have liked a really young band to have closed it.
"If you've got Sir Steve Redgrave handing over the torch to the youngsters, it would have been nice to have had One Direction.
"They're our biggest export at the moment, pure pop."
Hadley said that Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik should have performed a number backed by a symphony orchestra.
He added: "One Direction with the Royal Philharmonic, with about 100 singers in a choir, behind them.
"To me that would have been the new generation kind of thing."
