Andrew Lloyd Webber’s decision to send Jeff Anderson home on tonight’s Superstar might come as a shock to some after the young Irish singer gave the performance of a lifetime earlier on in the show.
Andrew told the talented Jesus hopeful: “I have no doubt that one day you will play Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar…Tonight you fought superbly.” He added that he thought age might have been a factor and suggested that perhaps in two or three years time he might be ready for the role.
Jeff, dubbed “Baby Jesus” by the good Lord Webber became the sixth contestant to be eliminated from Superstar in the final show of this week’s live performances alongside Jon Moses after finding himself in the bottom three after the public vote.
The talented trio performed Could We Start Again from Jesus Christ Superstar, the words ringing truer in their dangerous situation than they might have done otherwise.
Andrew wasted no time in making his choice; he opted to save Roger Wright whose performance of Feeling Good earlier in the night were eerily prophetic.
The so called “baby Jesus” gave a rock n roll performance earlier in the night, but there was nothing babyish about his performance as he strutted the stage in skin tight purple jeggins and a leather jacket head banging throughout.
The judges gave him a standing ovation and Amanda looked open mouthed after his performance of Call it Love by Poco.
Dawn said: “Wow Jeff you is one sexy Jesus! … You are a mammoth talent.”
Jason was blown away saying: “Sexy Jeffy baby!... Finally we are seeing you come out of yourself… Andrew was having convulsions.”
While Andrew told the young talent: “You released your inner rock god.”
Despite this praise however, Jeff was forced to take the Highway to Hell out of the competition instead of joining the remaining finalists on the Stairway to Heaven.
