Tim Prottey-Jones has said an emotional farewell to Jesus Christ Superstar after becoming the third finalist voted off the show.
It was a close call as it was revealed Tim, along with David Hunter had received the lowest votes and would therefore take part in the sing off. It was the second sing-off for Tim, who was also in the bottom two on Tuesday night, with Scottish singer Dirk Johnston.
But tonight there was a twist… Andrew Lloyd Webber decided David and Tim should perform their sing-off track of the Beatles' The Long and Winding Road, then carry on with their show performance as planned and he would decide who was going at the end. Oh Lordy!
Tim delivered a powerful rendition of Aerosmith’s Dream On, complete with his now trademark high pitched scream.
As the crowd went wild, Mel C said: “That was absolutely your best performance. I’m absolutely gutted, you and David should not be in the bottom two.”
Jason Donovan simply said: “Talk about saving the best for last, I mean listen to that.”
Dawn French gushed: ”I absolutely love watching you Tim and you went up five notches there.”
And Andrew added: “You are certainly not second rate, you are first rate. All I can say is that if someone could spirit me away now, I would go.”
Sadly, that was not on the cards and Andrew had to make the incredibly tough decision to say goodbye to Tim, who really has been a leading light in this competition. Yes, we were crying, as was Tim – it’s too sad!
Tim has had a rollercoaster journey on Superstar, admitting he struggled with nerves during the auditions, but the confidence boost he received when the good Lord chose to put him through to the final 11 clearly worked wonders for his performance skills and saw him receive incredible praise from the judges.
He delivered a stunning rendition of Rod Stewart’s hit First Cut Is The Deepest, which saw Andrew tell him: “When I saw the dress rehearsal I thought you weren’t connecting, but tonight you did, you got it right this evening and I think you’ll go a long way.”
On Tuesday night he performed Muse’s Time is Running Out, complete with that scream, and Melanie C said: “Great song and you absolutely did it justice.”
Sadly, Tim’s Superstar journey has now come to an end but we’re sure this won’t be the last we hear from the big-hearted charity worker. Not only has he penned his own musical, he also said: “Superstar has been the experience I needed to realise that this is now what I want to do, and should be doing, for the rest of my life.”
