Superstar reject Jonathan Ansell finds life is far from Tweet after show

Superstar reject Jonathan Ansell has revealed that he faced upsetting abuse from users of social networking site Twitter, after it emerged that he had auditioned for the programme while already starring in a West End show.

The former G4 singer had already landed a part in A Tale of Two Cities when he auditioned for Superstar, a brand new ITV and STV show that hunts to find the perfect person to play Jesus in a new production of Jesus Christ Superstar.

And after viewers found out he was skipping rehearsals for A Tale of Two Cities to enable him to audition to also be in with a shot of starring in Jesus Christ Superstar, Jonathan was inundated with hurtful message from angry users, dubbing him “greedy” and calling him names including a “rat”.

And it’s left the 30-year-old shaken up. He told The Sun: “It was like an assault, I felt battered and bruised afterwards.

“It was shocking how many people targeted me with expletives.

“I was called all the worst names you can think of. You kind of just go, ‘wow’. I couldn’t believe some of the things that were being written.

“Luckily, I’ve got a thick skin but it has stunned me.”

He also wrote on Twitter last night: "I live by the moto 'its better to regret what you've done that what you havnt!' Sod you all as haters may you realise your own failings [sic]!!"

However it wasn’t just viewers who were left annoyed that Jonathan had auditioned for Superstar after already landing a role in a West End show; the singer also revealed he got a rollicking off Superstar judge Jason Donovan too.

“Jason was really not impressed with my choice. He told me frankly that I was chasing the lights and I’d have nothing left when they faded,” Jonathan told the paper.

“That did upset me - I thought he of all people should have understood. But perhaps he didn’t know it didn’t clash with the show long-term.”

After it emerged that Jonathan was due to star in A Tale of Two Cities the 30-year-old said that he had “managed to resolve” the clash.

Jonathan is now starring in a production of Bohemian Rhapsody, which starts a run at Eastbourne Theatres tomorrow (July 10). He took to Twitter today to write: "Excited about our week @EBTheatres starting tomorrow with #BoRhap I am looking forward to being by the sea, maybe spot of fishing too!
