Craig Charles returns to the Corrie cobbles next week, but all is not well for his soap character Lloyd Mullaney, who has found himself falling on hard times.
Lloyd left the street after investing in a land deal in Jamaica, but after the deal went belly up, he returned to Manchester with his tail between his legs and has been working for a dodgy cab firm to pay the bills.
After a run-in with former Streetcars partner Steve McDonald, played by Simon Gregson, Lloyd decides to set up his own rival cab firm, but things don’t go according to plan when he gives Tracy, played by Kate Ford, a job on the switchboard.
“Tracy turns up asking for a job saying she hates Steve and that together they can grind him into the dirt, so Lloyd gives her a job working the switchboard,” explained Craig.
“But she sends cabs to the wrong addresses, phones up Steve and lets Streetcars nick punters, and then to cap it off, she pours sugar into three of Lloyd’s cabs petrol tanks, which means they are completely wrecked and it is going to cost thousands of pounds to repair them.”
Lloyd is furious, and suspecting that Steve is behind Tracy’s sabotage, he sets off to confront him, but with Steve at Amy’s school sports day, things don’t go according to plan.
Lloyd chases Steve around the sports field like a nutter,” laughed Craig. “When he finally catches him, Lloyd wrestles him to the ground and the headmaster comes on with the loud speaker and screams in their ears.
“He tells us to go and wait for him outside his office like two naughty school kids!”
Lloyd will be back on our TV screens in Coronation Street from Monday, July 2 at 7.30pm.
