Pop princess Britney Spears is expected to be announced as a judge on the new series of X Factor USA today.

According to reports, Britney will personally appear at the Fox Network’s TV show Upfronts in New York, where she will be unveiled as a judge on the hit singing show.

Brit is thought  to have signed a mega million deal worth a reported $15 million.

Simon has previously spoken of his “fascination” with Britney, during an interview with 1043myfm.

"Well, I'm fascinated by her,” the music mogul said. “The fact that she's still one of the most talked-about - not just popstars, but people in the world today - means that you've got this star power.

"This girl's got resilience and the fact that she's survived this and she's still hot, she's still having hit records and she's still controversial."

If the rumours are true, the Toxic singer will become one of four judges, joining existing panellists Simon Cowell and record producer L.A. Reid, along with one other judge thought to be Disney darling Demi Lovato.

Demi, 19, is now said to be heading to New York for the official announcement which is expected to be made today, according to celebrity website TMZ.

The first series of X Factor USA hit TV screens last year, with Simon Cowell, L.A. Reid, Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul in the judges’ seats.

Former X Factor UK judge Cheryl Cole was also one of the original judges, but was axed from her role after just a couple of weeks.

The singing show was taken Stateside following the huge success of the UK version, and is expected to return in the US in the autumn.

Meanwhile both Gary Barlow and Louis Walsh have been confirmed as judges on this year’s series of the UK version of X Factor.
