Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean have just finished the Dancing on Ice 2012 tour but the stars are already looking ahead to next year’s show and are eyeing up prospective talent to take to the ice.
Who is on their wish-list? Speaking at the Dancing on Ice tour in Glasgow, Jayne said: “I wanted David Beckham to try it.” Chris joked: “Give him a call.”
And top of Mr Dean’s dream ice line-up is Angelina Jolie, although he fears she may be a little busy with her six children. That and she’s got a wedding to plan Chris!
Zara Phillips was spotted in the DOI audience this year, cheering on good friend Chemmy Alcott. What would be the chances of the sporty royal, or even Kate Middleton, getting their skates on?
Jayne and Chris said they would love to get the royals on ice – it would be a first for the series.
And pop princes One Direction would also be in their dream line-up, with Chris, saying: “We had One Direction on the show. They came and performed so that was a lot of fun, we had a lot of teenage support. Harry’s the one that everybody wants to be close to.” Harry Styles in sequins and spandex – what a thought ladies!
Jayne and Chris are just as passionate as ever about Dancing on Ice, revealing that when the show first aired, they thought it might be a one-off series.
Seven years later and it is still going strong, discovering incredible skating talent amongst our favourite stars.
Chris spoke about the top talent over the years, saying: “Chris Fountain, who was just a natural and a bit of a raw talent and then we had the refinement of Ray Quinn and this year Matthew Wolfenden was a mix of both of them.”
The skating stars will now take a well-earned break before preparing for the next series but they are set to grace our screens this summer in a special Olympic themed show.
Jayne explained: "We recorded a Dancing on Ice special and that’s going to go out just before the Olympic games and we had all Olympians as our celebrities. It was amazing the standard they got to in such a short space of time.”
Dancing On Ice: Going For Gold will see inspirational athletes, including Colin Jackson CBE, Tessa Sanderson CBE and Olga Korbu, swap their tracksuits for sparkly Lycra as they take to the rink to perform in front of a live studio audience.
As for Torvill and Dean, they show no signs of slowing down, insisting: “We would like to keep going as long as we feel we’re still enjoying it and we’re able to do it.”
