Britain’s Got Talent: Area 51 receives mixed reviews from the judges

The future’s bright, the future’s Area 51, according to Simon Cowell at least.

Area 51 are a performance group which consists of six female dancers, two angle grinders, two Co2 girls, three robots and two controllers. Phew!

The talented robotic movers tour the country performing, and are regulars at Glastonbury festival where they have even have their own designated area.

But are they about to get one step closer to having the chance to perform at the Royal Variety Performance?

Well they certainly impressed Simon with their high energy routine.

The head judge said: “I love this act. It’s all the things I likes as a child robots. I liked to have you in my house.”

Alesha Dixon wasn’t so keen. She said: “Visually you look spectacular but as I said to Fish last night, I could visualize you more at a festival or exhibition and musically it was too noisy.”

David Walliams said: “It was certainly interesting. Ultimately I actually found it terrifying. I don’t know if it is right for the royal variety show but it’s a fantastic act.”

Amanda Holden agreed:  “Visually for me it’s spectacular but it’s like blamanche. There’s no substance to it. It looks good but when you dip your spoon in it’s a bit watery.”

If the Area 51 performers do make it through to the final and ultimately win the £500,000 prize money, they have some very sensible ideas about how they would spend the cash.

They said: “If we win most of the £500,000 will firstly be invested into a new front door for our office! Everybody in the show will be handsomely rewarded, but most importantly we’ll be able to wisely invest in a real show of our own, as we feel we’ve so many ideas just waiting to bring to life, the public deserve to see them.”

They added: “Performing at the Royal Variety would be the biggest and most prestigious performance we have ever done. It would mean a new start for Area 51 and be a just reward for our hard working crew.

“I think we’d rather win the competition for the chance to perform at the Royal Variety Performance instead of the prize money. It would stop our parents from nagging us to get a proper job.”

Area 51 have one final message for BGT fans: “We should win BGT because we are the perfect example of what ordinary British people can do with creativity, inventiveness, and a shared love for performing.”
