BGT semi final result: Paige Turley narrowly loses place in final

Talented teen Paige has narrowly missed out on a place in the final of Britain’s Got Talent. The 14 year old singer from Scotland was in the final three after the public vote in tonight’s semi final, but lost out to ballroom dancing duo Kai and Natalia after the judges voted them through to the final.

Comedian David Walliams was the sole judge to vote for the young Scot, saying: “It’s really tough I’m going to pick the act that I think has the most potential and that for me is Paige.”

Alesha Dixon, who earlier panned the singer's performance, said: “Very easy for me, ballroom and Latin hold a special place in my heart – Kai and Natalia.”

Amanda, who also felt that Paige's performance was not "special" enough,  said: “I’m going on the performances I’ve seen this evening. Kai and Natalia.”

This left the decision up to Simon who looked clearly torn and said: “I like both” and after much thought added: “I apologise to the act I haven’t put through, I’m going to put through Kai and Natalia.”

So Paige will head home while Kai and Natalia, and opera singers Charlotte and Johnathon go on to face Welsh choir Only Boys Aloud and dog act Ashleigh and Pudsey.

The Scot first appeared on our screens in week four of the Britain’s Got Talent auditions when the team came to Edinburgh and she stunned the judges and audience with a beautiful version of Bon Iver’s Skinny Love.

Earlier in the evening she performed a Bruno Mars song It Will Rain that received mixed comments from the judges.

New mum Amanda kicked off the comments saying: “I feel slightly underwhelmed by that performance…I do think you’ve got a good voice but I didn’t like song choice… I wanted you to do something special.”

Simon leapt to the Scot’s defence saying: “I’m going to disagree. It’s a great choice of song for you… it was a little bit straight line… but twice in a row you’ve shown us the kind of artist you want to be.”

Paige, who started singing three years ago, was one of the most successful acts at the Edinburgh auditions. Pop star Alesha told her: “You are adorable! I love your song choice so different and refreshing… I think you should be really proud of that performance and your family should be proud because you just blew us away.”
