Britain’s Got Talent semi-final 1: Rachel Knowland isn’t Simon’s Baby after performance

Coming from Kent, 25-year-old Rachel is an R&B soul singer who started singing in a funk band at school at 14.

Her influences range from Eva Cassidy to Jessie J. She’s a mum to her three young children and wants to prove she still has a chance at a successful music career. Go Rachel!

She decided to tackle an updated version of classic Be My Baby, with a group of sultry backing singers lined up either side of her. But did she do enough to satisfy the judges?

Amanda said: “You looking stunning, absolutely stunning.

“I think you delivered it really well, it was a confident performance, but it was safe.

“You did you and your family proud tonight.”

Simon added: “It’s one of my favourite songs. My problem is that you didn’t put your stamp on the song. I’m not going to remember that in 10 minutes.

David retorted: “I’m not going to forget that.

“I think you’re a real timeless star, so congratulations.”

Alesha explained: “My issue is that it didn’t feel believable to your style.

“Your voice is stunning, but I think there should be more.”

If she could meet anyone, Rachel said before the show: “Of course the number one person would have been Michael Jackson.

“As he has influenced both the music and dance industries. He is a true legend that will always be missed. Others would include Janet Jackson, Nelson Mandela, Timberland and Obama.

“On a personal level, Simon Cowell as he has a great business mind and being the man behind an empire of great shows, means he is a great role model for being a product of perseverance, determination and drive.”
