The British Soap Awards 2012 saw television’s finest scrub up and get their glad rags on for the glittering highlight of the soap awards calendar.

Actors and actresses from Emmerdale, EastEnders, Coronation Street, Hollyoaks and Doctors turned out to see who would win one of the coveted gongs and the ultimate accolade of British Soap of the Year.

With sizzling storylines and steamy scenes on the up on our TV screens, the hot-omoter (ok, we made that word up) is smoking at the moment, but it seems no one can steal the Sexiest star titles from Corrie’s Michelle Keegan and EastEnders Scott Maslen. They’re just too damn sexy that pair.

Emotional and fitting moments came when stars who departed our favourite soaps this year were rewarded for their efforts.

Emmerdale’s Danny Miller took the gong for Best Actor, while Coronation Street's Katherine Kelly won the award for Best Exit and her final farewell programme was awarded Best Single Episode.

Pam St. Clement, who said so long to EastEnders on January 1, quite rightly won the Lifetime Achievement Award.

The show also featured a moving montage in tribute to Coronation Street legend Betty Driver, who passed away, at the age of 91, in October last year.

It was a fantastic night for EastEnders star Jo Joyner, who lifted two awards for her role as Tanya Jessop. She was praised for her portrayal of the character’s battle with cancer and it clearly meant a great deal to the star.

The title of Best British Soap is always the nail-biter, but it’s the Queen Vic that will once again be holding the celebration party as EastEnders took the gong for the second year in a row.

In terms of awards, Corrie and EastEnders both won seven each, while Emmerdale took home three.

As for Hollyoaks and Doctors, well, there’s always next year.

With that, our favourite soapy wonders went off to enjoy the afterparty – and they certainly did just that. Did you see the pictures?
