EastEnders actress Lorna Fitzgerald has won the title of Best Young Performance at this year’s British Soap Awards.
The 16-year-old, who plays the role of Abi Branning in the soap, has endured plenty of drama over the last few months, so it’s no surprise the teen star has managed to catch the eye of the panel who voted her the most worthy of the gong.
Accepting her award from Blue Peter’s Helen Skelton as well as children’s TV stars Sam & Mark, Lorna said: "Thank you for this award and thank you to everyone at EastEnders, especially Joe and Jake, and the brand new family, and thank you to my own family. Good luck everyone!"
Lorna managed to secure the award after battling against fierce competition in her category, from fellow stars Alexander Bain (Simon Barlow in Coronation Street), Charlie Kenyon (Cameron Waterhouse in Doctors), and Eden Taylor-Draper (Belle Dingle in Emmerdale).
The young star has seen her character embroiled in a number of dramatic storylines over the last year or so, including being hit by Deano's car, discovering Trina's dead body in Charlie's summer-house, and watching as her parents’ marriage crumbled.
And her talent in acting out these various scenarios has seen the teen win the coveted title of Best Young Performance. Well done Lorna!
