Andrew Lancel has picked up the awards for Villain of the Year at The British Soap Awards 2012.

The actor, who played soap baddie Frank Foster, looked delighted with the honour as he collected his gong from Omid Djalli.

Thanking the viewers for voting for him, Andrew said: "Thank you very much indeed, I’m flabbergasted by this. I wouldn’t be here at all if it wasn’t for my amazing colleague Alison King…”

Andrew added: “I just want to say to my little boy at home, daddy got a prize...!"

Andrew beat off tough competition from fellow soap stars Ace Bhatti (Dr Yusef Khan in EastEnders), Joshua Pascoe (Ben Mitchell in EastEnders) and Jeff Rawle (Silas Blissett in Hollyoaks) to win the title.

He won the honour after giving a heart-stopping performance as the twisted Frank Foster in Coronation Street, creating havoc wherever he went – but eventually met his comeuppance.

There were no shortage of suspects in the frame for his murder, with five of Corrie’s residents accused of bumping him off.

After brutally raping former fiancée Carla Connor, Frank then went on to torment Carla even further, cheating her out of her business, and threatening her for a second time.

He also managed to get on the wrong side of Sally Webster, who eventually found out about Frank’s sadistic side after initially standing by him. Frank also angered Sally’s estranged husband Kevin, Carla’s sister-in-law and friend Michelle, and Carla’s new partner Peter Barlow.

He was certainly a bad ‘un!
