Craig Charles is to return to Coronation Street this week after six months away.
The actor plays Lloyd Mullaney on and off in the Weatherfield drama since 2005.
He is to return to the cobbled street with a bang as he goes head-to-head with Steven McDonald (Simon Gregson).
Lloyd will cause a rumpus by planning to open a rival cab firm to Steve's Streetcars.
The 47-year-old actor had planned to take only three months off to film a new series of Red Dward.
However, his leave extended to six months after writers reportedly struggled to write his character back into the series.
A source told The Sun: "There were all kinds of rumours flying around that Craig wasn't coming back at all.
"But it seems he is back with a bang.
"Craig is well liked by the production crew and has some great banter with them, so he has been missed.
"It's a relief and joy that he is back."
Lloyd was seen leaving Weatherfield to begin a new life after he his break-up with girlfriend Cheryl.
