Katherine Kelly has revealed that her new role in biopic Mr Selfridge is completely opposite to her Coronation Street character.
The actress played Becky McDonald in the soap from 2006 until 2012, and her new socialite role couldn’t be more different.
Speaking to Press Association, Katherine explained: “I love the fact that it’s based on the real thing, and the part for me couldn’t be more opposite to Becky.
“She is absolutely on top of the social circle, Lady Mae. She is the one of all the women who hang around with Mr Selfridge and she is the only one in the pecking order that’s three steps above him, and that’s just a thrill to play.”
The new show was written by Andrew Davies and also stars Entourage’s Jeremy Piven as Selfridges owner Harry, who Katherine thinks is an outstanding actor.
“I always look at the script and the part and for me the script is excellent,” she said. “It’s based on a true story, which I always like.”
Don't miss Coronation Street on STV from 7.30pm on Mondays and Fridays and from 8.30pm on Thursdays.
