Coronation Street star Helen Worth is engaged to be married for the second time.
The 61-year-old actress has played Gail McIntyre in the Weatherfield drama since 1974.
Helen's Corrie character is unlucky in love and has been married five times to four husbands including once to a serial killer, Richard Hillman.
Worth is hoping her real love life has a smoother ride after becoming engaged to teacher Trevor Dawson.
Friends of the couple have revealed that they are to marry this year, hopefully before the end of summer.
Helen's first marriage ended 11 years ago and she has reportedly been dating Trevor for more than a year.
Trevor is thought to have proposed last month and Helen was seen with a ring on her engagement finger at the Royal Television Society awards.
A friend told The People: "Everyone in the cast is thrilled for Helen nobody deserves to find happiness more than her.
"If everything goes right they could be man and wife by the end of the year they don't see any point in dithering."
The couple got together last year and first appeared in public last June at a fete at the school where Trevor has taught for more than 30 years.
A friend of Helen said: "The one thing missing from her life for many years was a loving partner to share in her success.
"She has found that in Trevor and everybody is overjoyed for the pair of them.
"It's a long-distance love affair that has gone the extra mile and they're so good for each other.
"Helen has always been a very private person, but it's plain to see how delighted she is with the development in her love life.
"These days she appears to be smiling all the time the fans would hardly recognise her after having to portray all that awful anguish for so many years."
