X Factor host Dermot O’Leary hopes Scot Jade Richards returns to the show

As crowds of hopefuls braved the cold Glasgow weather to audition for The X Factor 2012, their day was made Xtra special when presenter Dermot O’Leary appeared at the SECC.

After recording his oh-so-cheery links for the show and posing for pics and hugging the wannabe singers (he really did make time for everyone), we managed to have a quick chat with him about all things X.

Impressed by the enthusiasm of the Glasgow auditionees, he said: “It always amazes me, we get a great crowd here every year. The characters are always brilliant and hopefully we’ve got some talent this year.”

Last year, Scots pinned their hopes on Jade Richards getting through to the live shows, but were left disappointed when Kelly Rowland failed to pick her for the Girls.

The good news is, it looks like Jade’s back to have another shot at X Factor glory.

Dermot said: “Jade did really well last year and we were all surprised she didn’t get through to the studio, but the talent in the girls category was huge.

“I think she’s back this year. Someone said they saw her in the crowd so fingers crossed.”

Dermot also praised Gary Barlow, Kelly Rowland and Tulisa’s efforts and joked that Louis Walsh will always be a part of the show, saying: “Even if the show’s not going anymore, Louis will still turn up.”

The 38-year-old said he loved seeing girl group Little Mix win last year and that he is thrilled for One Direction and their incredible success, in particular Harry Styles, who he has remained close to.

Clearly still passionate about The X Factor, Dermot added that one of his favourite things about the live shows is the regionality aspect and he hopes that Scotland has someone to cheer on this year. So do we Dermot, so do we.
