Britain’s Got Talent: first interview with incredible Jonathan and Charlotte

Britain’s Got Talent 2012 kicked off with a bang, with singing duo Jonathan and Charlotte emerging as the stars of the show.

The pop / opera performers blew the judges and audience away with their powerful, dramatic audition.

The response to their performance has been incredible, with Jonathan’s moment in the spotlight being likened to Susan Boyle’s BGT audition in 2009.

Speaking after the show, 17-year-old Jonathan said: “I just watched people rise out of their seats, my mind was blown.

“Simon was shockingly positive to me, he just said things like I was a future star.”

And it seems he was right - everyone is talking about the singers. The friends have now given an insight to how they feel, following their moment of glory being aired to the nation.

With regards to being dubbed the new Su-Bo, Jonathan said: “It’s incredible. It’s great to be compared to her, although we want to be seen as individual in our own way.”

Just like Susan, Simon Cowell was initially sceptical of Jonathan’s unconventional 'look', but the talented performer didn’t let that put him off.

He said: “I know I don’t look like a standard performer. I just went out there in my normal clothes, so I expected there would be a little bit of a reaction. I was hoping our performance would show them differently.”

So would Jonathan consider having a makeover?

He admitted he wouldn’t say no to some free clothes (who would?) but insits he’ll never cut his hair.

Charlotte said: “I wouldn’t want to change my image. People should be able to accept you for what you are.”

Jonathan has spoken out about having a nervous breakdown last year, but he sees the BGT auditions as a positive thing to do in his life.

“I thought long and hard before entering BGT and discussed it with my family. My breakdown was when I was at school. Me and school don't go so well. This, on the other hand, is exactly what I want to do. Singing is what I love and doing BGT has been fun and made me happy. My family are very supportive and I'm being well looked after by the team at BGT.”

There’s still a long way to go in the competition but it looks like Jonathan and Charlotte are already the ones-to-watch on BGT 2012.
