Dancing On Ice finalist Chico Slimani’s journey on the ice

Chico Slimani has been named one of three Dancing On Ice finalists, and is gearing up for the biggest night of his life this Sunday, when he goes head-to-head with Jorgie Porter and Matthew Wolfenden.

It’s been one crazy journey for former goat herder, who started out as a reserve in the competition, and has become one of the show’s most promising contestants.

Chico got his chance to shine when singer Chesney Hawkes suffered a severe ankle sprain and a fractured fibula while practising basic steps for the show, and stepped up to replace the star.

And from the word go Chico showed he had what it took to go all the way on the show.

In his first performance in week two Chico proved he really was a Wild Thing on the ice, as he made his debut alongside Jodeyne Higgins, with the former X Factor contestant showing off some rather impressive moves.

He followed this up with a Top Gun-themed routine for the special movie episode in the third week of DOI, dressed up in a sexy pilot outfit to perform to You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’.

The fourth week saw Chico and Jodeyne go up against Sam Nixon and Alexandra Schauman in the legendary duel performance, with the pair skating to Under Pressure as they did their best to prove they were the best. Chico was the one who impressed though, with the chirpy chap being awarded immunity by all three of the judges, Robin Cousins, Katarina Witt and Louie Spence.

Week five saw Chico give another brilliant performance, with the muscle-man pouring himself into a slinky silver outfit to perform to S Club 7’s cheese-tastic hit Don’t Stop Movin’, which he scored 21.5 points for.

The week after that love was in the air as the contestants took to the ice for the Valentine’s-themed show. Chico and Jodeyne got into the spirit of things, with a romantic performance to L-O-V-E, scoring 23 points out of a possible 30.

Chico was then back on fine form with a fun-filled performance to the Rizzle Kicks hit Mama Do The Hump, improving his score again, this time earning 24 points.

Showing off newly-dyed blond hair, Chico then returned to the ice in week eight to give a rock-tastic performance to Mony Mony, which he was awarded 24.5 points for.

In week nine and nearing the end of the competition, Chico still showed no signs of slowing down, dancing topless – something which created quite a stir – to Sexy and I Know It. And the judges seemed to agree, scoring him a respectable 25 points out of a possible 30.

Clearly a fan of wacky costumes, Chico made his return in Week 10 dressed up as a strong man for the circus-themed show. He was full of the fun of the fair and it showed in Chico’s score, as he bagged 27 points.

Then in Week 11, Chico and Jodeyne returned with another fantastic routine, performed to Take That’s The Flood, which eanred them the highest score of the night for a paired performance, a whopping 28.5 out of 30.

Chico also did well in the Ultimate Skills section, nabbing 27 points. The combination of these results meant he was second on the leader-board last night with 55 points, just one mark behind Matthew Wolfenden’s 56.

Chico will go up against Matthew Wolfenden and Jorgie Porter this Sunday in the Dancing On Ice grand final.
