Coronation Street star Nigel Havers has revealed that he is unsure what the future holds for his soap character Lewis Archer.
Lewis returns to the show this week when he bumps into old flame Audrey Roberts in a country pub, but she is less than pleased to see him. The conman later turns up in Weatherfield and apologises for his dastardly deeds, claiming that he’s changed.
Nigel is unsure, however, whether Lewis really has changed or whether he’ll be able to win back Audrey. He explained: “Lewis does a runner after first meeting Audrey because he’s so scared of what’s going to happen. He then turns up in Coronation Street!
“He says that it was implanted in his DNA to behave like that, he’s thought long and hard about his behaviour, he’s now a changed man, he’s come back to get his just desserts and he’s going to be a different human being from now on.
“Audrey may or may not believe Lewis’ new side. We have to wait and see. Even I don’t know!”
Lewis fled the cobbles in 2010 after fleecing Peter Barlow out of money. He had also planned to take Audrey’s life savings but had a change of heart when his true intentions were revealed, and Audrey was left heartbroken and humiliated.
Speaking about his return, Nigel said: “It feels wonderful to be back in Coronation Street. I had such a good time last time. What an honour to be asked back.
Lewis will be seen back in Coronation Street from Friday, February 17 at 8.30pm on STV.
