Robin Cousins has praised Chico Slimani for his latest Dancing on Ice performance, which saw him receive his highest score yet from the judges and make it to second place on the leader board.
Former X Factor star Chico has stood out as one of the contestants to watch, and in a night where the boys trumped the girls with their performances, Robin was delighted that Chico has taken his advice from last week on board.
He explained: “I thought Chico was brilliant tonight, and we’ve always said in the past that he’s such an entertainer and such a performer, and I did say to him last week that he’s got to be careful not to give his performance to the audience.
“Tonight it was much more contained and much more between him and Jodeyne, and it made us care exactly what he was doing rather than throwing it at us.”
With the exception of Jorgie Porter, who topped the leaderboard with a score of 26, the girls’ performances didn’t go exactly to plan this week.
Rosemary Conley and Chemmy Alcott both found themselves in the bottom two, with Rosemary being sent home, and Heidi Range stumbled on the ice and failed to perfect her lift.
Jennifer Ellison also had a bad night when she was injured after accidentally kicking herself in the head.
The boys, on the other hand, had a great night, with Chico, Sam Nixon, Sebastian Foucan and Matthew Wolfenden all receiving high scores and praise from the judges for their performances. Andrew Whyment was the only boy to receive a low score.
“The boys are really kicking backside right now and doing it in a great way,” Robin said. “What I really like about them is that none of them are alike. They’ve all got something to offer that the other one doesn’t.
“Skating on the ice can be unpredictable, as can some of the performances, and that’s where the inexperience of the celebrities comes in. The two for me that are standing to stand out are Sam and Chico.”
