Jennifer Ellison performed a red hot routine to Fever on this week’s Valentine’s themed Dancing on Ice, but the dancer’s flexibility came at a price as she kicked herself in the head.
The brave star completed the routine but after the recap, Torvill, Dean and Phillip Schofield confirmed that Jennifer had injured herself.
Her partner Dan Whiston briefly returned to the set and explained that she did a ‘scorpion kick’ which saw her “hit the heel of her skate into the back of her head.”
Jen was awarded 19 points, her best score yet, but she wasn’t there to hear the judges’ comments.
Head judge Robin Cousins said: “Katarina said in the rehearsals that she’s got to be careful. As a dancer, the last thing she would think about is what’s on the end of her boot.
“People do forget that the skates make your feet the heaviest part of your body and just doing a little bit of a flick, makes everything go a lot harder.”
Host Christine Bleakley spoke to coach Karen Barber who said: “It’s that moment that emphasises how dangerous Dancing on Ice is.”
Dan was keen to reassure fans Jen is doing well and told how she was being treated by the medical team on the show.
He said: “She’s alright, she’s in good hands – and the good news is she’s going to be ok!
“It was just a scary moment. I saw some contact and I thought it was the leather and I looked down and I saw red.”
Proud of his partner’s determination to carry on, Dan added: “She is a trooper and I think it was her best skate.”
