British actor Nigel Havers has revealed that he is excited to be returning to the Coronation Street cobbles to reprise his role as smooth-talking bad guy Lewis Archer.
Lewis quickly swept glamorous Audrey Roberts off her feet when he first arrived in Weatherfield in 2009, with plans of stealing her life savings, but when his wicked ways were exposed he fled, leaving poor Audrey broken-hearted.
Speaking to Inside Soap magazine about his return to the popular soap, Nigel said: “At first, he pretends to be Lewis’ twin brother, Hugh. Audrey is totally floored to see him again, as you can imagine.
“Lewis is a changed man. He’s back to apologise and repay the debts that he owes. He returns the money he took from Peter at the bookies and even adds an extra thousand pounds by way of compensation.
“Lewis feels desperately bad about what he did, and he’s going to be quite busy saying sorry over the next few weeks!”
Nigel is delighted to be back on the street, and he is really looking forward to be returning to work with Sue Nicholls, who plays Audrey. He revealed: “We’re good friends and I speak to her a lot.
“We’ve been having a laugh about Lewis returning for some time now, and Sue was part of the reason for me coming back to Coronation Street. They’re such a wonderful group of people, and I do enjoy working with.
Nigel’s acting career spans more than 40 years, and he was most recently seen playing handsome aristocrat Lord Hepworth in the Downton Abbey Christmas special. The actor also took part in I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! in 2010, walking out of the Australian jungle after nine days.
Nigel can be seen in Coronation Street on STV from Friday, February 17th.
