Emmerdale star James Thornton has revealed that he really enjoyed sinking his teeth into his latest dramatic soap storylines.

James’ character in the show, John Barton, will be left fighting for his life next week alongside his wife Moira after the pair are involved in a horrific car crash, which will see them plummeting down the side of a ravine.

Speaking to Inside Soap magazine, James said: “I’m so close to the actors who play the Bartons, and really proud of what we’ve achieved.

“I had a brilliant time working on the crash – you always want to be involved in something as dramatic as that.”

James was keeping quiet as to whether John and Moira survive the crash or not, but the actor is set to leave the soap after almost three years and is looking forward to his next challenge.

He explained: “It’s time for me to do something different and see what happens. I live in London and have been away from home all this time, plus it’s unusual for me to play a part as long as I have this one.

“John and Moira’s story has been beautifully told, and the build-up to my exit has been so exciting, but now I’m looking forward to time off, cutting the grass and sorting out the bins – all those things I haven’t had a chance to do!”

Don’t miss Emmerdale on STV from 7pm every weeknight.
