One Direction delighted fans when they appeared on Dancing on Ice last night looking every inch the coolest popstars in town in their chic suits – we’re particularly fond of Harry’s ultra cute bowtie here in the STV office.
The busy boys have just completed a sell-out UK tour, followed by a hugely successful trip to the US, so it’s no wonder they were delighted to sit down and chill out backstage at the DOI studio.
But the hottest pop band in town may not be quite as cool as they look…
In keeping with Dancing on Ice’s pop theme, the boys discussed their own personal favourite pop classics, with most opting for Jackson Five numbers – a perfectly credible choice.
Zayn Malik, on the other hand, claimed Chico Time, by Dancing on Ice darling Chico, was his perfect poptastic hit. We love Chico, but he’s hardly at the cutting edge of pop. Nil poi Malik!
The 1D lads were impressed with the celebrity performers and were particularly taken with the ‘in-line’ group formation all the skaters showed off while they sang number one hit What Makes You Beautiful.
Harry said: “I like it while they all go in a row.” Louis added: “I like just the clicking.”
One Direction performed on the side of the ice but many fans would love to actually see the boys pull on some boots and take to the rink. Of course, the thought of them in those lycra costumes would simply be an added bonus.
Louis said: “I think if we were skating as a group, the best song would be for us Shaggy It Wasn’t Me.” Something to tell us Louis? An indication of the lads’ naughty nature perhaps?
Zayn once again showed off his less-than-cool taste in music by suggesting Who Let the Dogs Out would be the perfect track for them to skate to. We’d love to see Torvill and Dean choreograph a routine to that.
Finally, the heartthrobs spoke about their own skating experiences with Liam saying he had tried it before and really enjoyed it, while Louis was extremely proud to boast that Doncaster has a rink with two levels – ooooooh!
Harry admitted he had also tried skating but sadly didn’t progress from walking around the edge of the rink, holding onto the side.
He clearly needs someone to hold his hand and show him the ropes. Form an orderly queue ladies.
