Sean Batty’s passion and enthusiasm for all things weather has resulted in him becoming somewhat of a national treasure in Scotland.
Our “brrright and brreeezy” boy from Paisley brightens up many a lunch and dinner time with his cheeky smile, come rain, hail or shine.
Sean particularly comes into his own when it snows – his favourite weather – and last year, his coverage of the freezing temperatures saw one bar dedicate a winter warming drink to him - the Sean Batty whisky Latte, complete with a fetching picture of him sporting his red outdoor jacket on the glass.
So what better way to celebrate Sean’s passion for all things snowy than by giving him his own weather related series? Well, that’s just what STV has done.
On February 13 and 20, brand new snow and ice themed series, Weatherwatch with Sean Batty, will air at 8 o’clock.
Featuring everything from Sean 'Driving on Ice' (wouldn’t he be great on Dancing on Ice?) to his trip to Iceland in search of the Northern lights, or the Aurora Borealis to use the technical term.
It’s unmissable viewing, but for Mr Batty fans who can’t wait until then, we have a special treat in store.
Sean has opened up his weather centre doors to allow viewers a sneak peek into the life of Scotland’s favourite weatherman.
And it’s not all just standing in front of a board and smiling you know…
Sean has wanted to be a weatherman for as long as he can remember and after years of studying Meteorology at university and working his way up through the Met Office, his dream was finally realised.
Far from the wee boy who used to collect raindrops in homemade weather contraptions in his back garden, Sean’s day now consist of lights, camera, action.
First up, it’s into makeup to get powdered before going under the bright lights.
Then it’s off to wardrobe. Those big Batty fans out there will know that Sean has a penchant for ties and he was keen to show he’s a man with a tie for any occasion.
Birthdays, St Andrew's day, snowy days, any day – you name it, Sean has a tie to match.
‘The weather centre’ may sound like some grand building worthy of an army of staff and a host of gadgets but it’s actually Sean at his desk in STV HQ, with a computer and a collection of his favourite weather gadgets.
Yes, Sean not only presents the weather, he makes up the graphics, speaks to the Met Office, deals with weather warnings etc. In short, he’s a busy boy.
Next, it’s time to go into the studio and you will quickly learn why you never see Sean in green…
Ever dreamt of being a weatherman / girl? Sean suggests practicing in front of your bathroom mirror. We suggest locking the door and ensuring no-one is within ear shot or they might be a little concerned.
Sean rounds off the feature by proudly showing off his weather centre on the STV roof, before heading back indoors to see what the weather holds for us all in the next few days. He certainly brightens up our day in the office.
