Katy Armstrong and her boyfriend Chesney Brown have been struggling to cope with their baby son Joseph, and in a moment of madness next week, Katy abandons her son and leaves him at home alone as she heads off to the bank to pay the rent.
Things kick off at the start of the week when Chesney suggests taking on a second job to boost their income, as the pair have been having financial problems. Katy isn’t impressed, however, as she’s struggling to cope with Joseph as it.
Georgia May Foote, who plays teen mum Katy, explained to Inside Soap magazine: “Katy’s shocked by how difficult everything is. There’s the lack of sleep and Joseph’s constant crying, and the fact that she’s on her own with him day after day. She didn’t know it was going to be this hard.”
Worried about Joseph’s constant crying, Katie visits Dr Carter, but she’s left shocked when he tells her that there isn’t anything wrong. Georgia revealed: “He [Dr Carter] just tells her that it’s perfectly normal for a baby to cry, and as soon as Katy hears that, her heart sinks.
“It sounds awful, but she almost wants there to be something wrong, as that would explain why she can’t stop Joseph crying.”
Returning home, Katy suddenly remembers that she’s still not paid the rent just as the bank is about to close, but Joseph falls asleep just as she’s getting ready to leave the house, and she can’t bear to wake him up again as he has been crying all day.
Making a dangerous decision, Katy decides to leave him in the house while she rushes to the bank. Katy explained: “Ches has told Katy that Fiz will go mad if the rent’s not paid, so she’s under pressure.
“She doesn’t want to wake Joseph up to drag him out, so she feels she has no option but to just leave him behind sleeping. It’s a totally spur of the moment thing.”
However, when Chesney calls Katy while she’s out to tell her that he’s on his way home and the teen mum panics. Will she get home before Chesney or is her negligence about to be found out?
