Dancing on Ice star Matt Evers is a happy man at the moment as he is relishing every minute of skating with Hollyoaks beauty Jorgie Porter.
Matt joined Dancing on Ice in 2006 and hasn’t looked back since.
Speaking to stv.tv reporter Laura Boyd, after treating her to a dream skating lesson, the handsome 35 year old said the show had “absolutely changed his life” as he had actually quit skating when he got the call about the series.
The champion skater explained: “I had moved to LA after I had quit competing to do the whole acting thing, the TV thing. I had a bunch of friends out there and was working for about ten years and I got a phone call out of the blue from someone at ITV saying “we got your name from Torvill and Dean and we’re putting together this TV show where we’re going to be teaching celebrities to ice skate, would you be interested?”
“I literally thought I was in a dream.”
No-one quite knew if DOI would take off, but Matt said: “The ratings came back from that first show at like ten million and my world changed overnight.”
Matt has enjoyed some fantastic celebrity partners on the show, including Emmerdale star Suzanne Shaw, who won the series in 2008 and who Matt remains best friends with to this day.
Skating with stunning star Jorgie in the current series of Dancing on Ice, could he be about to repeat his 2008 success?
Matt smirked: “I think I have fallen in love with Jorgie, you heard it here first.
“She’s an incredible actress first and foremost, she’s an incredible person, not jaded by the industry by any means.
“What I love is she’s infectious but also she’s just this sponge she wants to soak this in so much and enjoy the ride.
“Like going into wardrobe and costuming at the studio, she lights up… She’s just such a girly girl, but at the same time too she’s a tomboy as she goes “I want to do this lift and I want to do this” but she’s doing things now that we’ve never seen female celebs do before, which we’re saving for the longevity of the programme but it’s amazing.”
Jorgie wowed on week one after she and Matt performed a breathtaking routine to ballad Skinny Love.
Last night, (23/01/12), the pair were joint top of the leaderboard with Emmerdale hunk Matthew Wolfenden, after stunning with a fun-filled and technically jaw-dropping routine to Dolly Parton’s Nine to Five.
Matt said: “I think if we can continue to work as hard as we’ve worked to this point, she definitely has the ability to go all the way. Winning the show is up to the public but at least getting to the final, getting to do the Bolero, would be a dream come true.”
Aside from the skating and drama on ice, viewers are always keen to know if romance has blossomed backstage, as it did for Jorgie’s Hollyoaks co-star Jennifer Metcalfe and pro skater Sylvain Longchambon on last year’s show.
Matt insisted there are “no romances yet”, but added it’s still early days.
He said: “Behind all the competition this year, it’s a really close group of people. We have had stale apples in the past, but all the girls love each other. Chemmy and Jorgie get on the ice and they just laugh and laugh and Mathew and Jorgie are building a really nice friendship.”
