Strictly Come Dancing contestant Robbie Savage has revealed that he has been left “upset” after members of the public complained about his crotch-grabbing, hip-thrusting dance moves.
The former footballer was performing a Michael Jackson dance routine on last weekend’s episode, and was trying to recreate the star’s famous moves.
However some viewers felt the routine was too risqué for a family show and complained to the BBC.
Now Robbie, who is partnered with professional Ola Jordan, has revealed that the criticism and nasty comments really hit a raw nerve. Speaking on this morning’s episode of Daybreak, he said: “I've had a bit of bad press this week
”It's got me down really because you know my football career - people said nasty things about me really. And I've just gone out there... if I offended anybody I didn't mean to," he said.
"I just went out there and have fun and surely that's what it's about?"
He added: "My little 5-year-old boy... I'll look around the house and he was doing the Michael Jackson thrusting. He's five, he does the Moonwalk and he loves it.
"He went home and said 'Daddy', and he was doing it for me in the kitchen. You know, I don't want to offend anybody, I just want to have fun."
Earlier in the week Robbie took to Twitter to ask fans to keep giving their support – and promised that his next routine, a waltz to a Take That song, will be “graceful”.
He posted a message on November 2 that read: “We need you this week tweeps, feeling the pressure after all the negative press , @StrictlyOla and I are going to be graceful this week!”
