Speaking at the Edinburgh Fringe, Paul Daniels revealed the truth about his supposed run-in with glove puppet Sooty – and whether a rematch may take place.
The world was shocked when Paul was apparently injured after being hit in the face by a pizza thrown by Sooty.
When asked about the incident around the Assembly George Square area where he’s performing this year during the Fringe, Paul told us: “If you do slapstick in pantomime or telly or anything, you’re going to get a bit of damage somewhere along the line.
“At the end of the coming Sooty series everyone get a pizza [mimes throwing action]. Well I got a bit of pizza in my eye, and when we left the place it was stinging. Debbie was driving so I said ‘oh, there’s a cottage hospital, let’s just call in there and make sure’.
“I saw a lovely nurse, and she said ‘it’s stinging a bit but that’s all, this’ll get rid of it’. Bump bump, two drops, thirty seconds, no pain, nothing. That was the end of it. It was six weeks later when The Sun picked it up and now all the papers have picked it up, it trended on Twitter, it’s just gone crazy. It was actually reported on the day I was going to open that I was in hospital. I phoned up to find out which hospital I was in so I could visit me, you know?”
So will there be a rematch? You’ll just have to watch the video above to find out…
