Big Brother star Chantelle Houghton has praised Alex Reid for his support has she comes to terms with the news that she can never have children of her own.
Chantelle, who has been dating the cage-fighter since May, said that the news had come as a "shock" to the couple.
Houghton recently revealed that years of extreme dieting and bulimia had left her unable to conceive.
The 27-year-old told heat magazine: "I feel numb, and like I can't relax until I have children.
"The cruel irony is that I've been on the Pill for years and years. I'm still coming to terms with it and Alex is, too, but he says he'll support me.
"Time is ticking and it feels as though the walls are closing in. There are only three years left on my body clock."
She continued: "I'm not prepared to live my life without having children, so I need to work out the next step.
"You take having kids for granted, and it's not until you're told you can't, that you realise how important it is."
Chantelle explained: "It's hard for me and it's hard for Alex. But I don't want to do this alone. I don't want to use a sperm donor."
She said of Alex: "He is sensitive, kind and thoughtful. He's a gentle giant, kind-hearted and lovely -- especially over this.
"He hasn't run away. That says a lot about him."
