Coronation Street star Shobna Gulati has decided to quit twitter after receiving a stream of racist taunts on the site.
The actress, who plays Sunita Alahan in the Weatherfield drama, said she did not want to read the nasty messages.
She wrote: "Surprised at the racial abuse and desire to try and hurt people for no reason.
"I love this twitter I like chatting with like minded folk but overt racism ...well that can't be tolerated.
"Horrid ... I don't get it and it saddens me."
The 44-year-old announced to her 18,000 followers, who she calls `tweet ta di do das', that she had decided to quit her account.
Shobna posted: "Hey tweet ta di do das thanks for the follows.
"Thanks for the banter I've enjoyed my time on twitter. Over and out."
