X Factor judge Louis Walsh stepped in as a substitute judge on this week’s Britain’s Got Talent auditions replacing American star David Hasselhoff.
The Irish music mogul joined regular judges comedian Michael McIntyre and Amanda Holden to decide which of the hopefuls at the London auditions had what it takes to get through to the next round of the competition.
Louis explained: “I’m here today because Hoff is busy. I’m really looking forward to filling Hoff’s big shoes.”
Louis Walsh well known for managing top boy bands such as Boyzone and Westlife, but is no stranger to the more controversial acts that might be at home on Britain’s Got Talent such as former X Factor contestants Wagner and the notorious quiffed twins Jedward.
Fellow judge Michael McIntyre took the opportunity to give Louis some business advice saying: “Westlife, they’re a bit serious aren’t they? Are they that emotional? Why don’t you do an up tempo number with them?”
Louis explained: “We have, but ballards work,” however Michael was unimpressed advising: “Sometimes you’ve got to take a risk Louis.”
Despite championing some of X Factor’s more controversial acts Louis seemed confused by many of the performers at the auditions.
When faced with a dance act based on Star Wars and Michael Jackson – Darth Dongle and the Princess - the baffled businessman exclaimed: “I didn’t get it at all. I don’t see the point of the act... I just don’t see anything interesting in the act, I just don’t get it. Is it just me?”
Tim, the next act to face the judges, also seemed to baffle him but when it came to the Underground Dance Company – a 13 strong dance troupe from Burges Hill, Louis had no doubts about their star quality.
The troupe stormed the stage all dressed like Edward Scissorhands, dancing to techno music, leading Michael McIntyre to comment: “It was kind of wild and scary. It was a bit frantic.”
However Louis enthused: “I didn’t want it to end. I think the choreography was amazing, I loved the image. I loved it all.”
As the London auditions ended Louis summed up his experience: “I think London absolutely delivered. I think we could have found the winner today. I’ve had a brilliant time here in London. The best time ever. Call me if you need me, I’m available!”
