Pat's a girl: Joanna Lumley to reprise Ab Fab role
The popular sitcom about the champagne swilling, fashion obsessed friends is returning to TV. Absolutely Fabulous starred Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley as Edina and Patsy.
The hit show began in 1992 with the last show aired on Christmas Day 2004.
Now Joanna Lumley told Hello magazine that they were scheduled to start filming late this summer.
She said: "In late August I start filming on three episodes of Absolutely Fabulous, which we are all ecstatic about.”
However, according to Joanna, Jennifer Saunders has yet to write the three scheduled episodes.
Jennifer has spent the past year being treated for breast cancer.
Joanna added: “Jen wrote to me and said, ‘Let's talk through it. What do you think?'. And I said, 'Bring it on'. Because we're all still here.
Mother's still alive, the wonderful June Whitfield. Julia Sawalha [and] Jane Horrocks [are] all still alive and available ... and I think we just have to do it,' she said at the time.
A BBC spokeswoman confirmed: “We're putting the finishing touches to the deal to bring it back.”
Ab Fab featured chaotic Edina and Patsy along with Edina’s daughter Saffy (Julia Sawalha) and her mother played by June Whitfield.
