It’s a rap: Cher Lloyd makes X Factor finals by the skin of her teeth

Cher Lloyd made it to The X Factor live final next weekend after going head-to-head in the sing-off with Mary Byrne, Louis Walsh's only remaining act in the contest.

The talented performers found themselves in the bottom two after receiving the lowest number of votes from the public.

A clearly shaken and upset Cher was saved after Dannii Minogue, Cheryl Cole and Simon Cowell voted for her with just Mary's mentor, Louis Walsh, opting to keep her in the contest.

Cher's mentor, Cheryl, told Dermot that there was no doubt in her mind about who she wanted to stay in the competition. “Mary you’ve always touched me with your vocal you know that that. I think you are two completely different acts," Cheryl explained; "But Cher’s my girl and I’ve backed her form the start, and I will back her to the end.”

Cher opted to perform Britney Spears’ haunting Everytime as her surival song. The emotional singer had tears in her eyes as she fought to save her place on the show, displaying how much making it to next weekend’s final meant to her.

Cher has been one of the most talked about contestants on The X Factor. The 17-year-old caught the attention of the judges from the word go, with an impressive performance of Turn My Swag On at the initial auditions.

But the pressure got to the teen and she broke down during the Judges’ Houses stage in the competition. Cheryl Cole decided to give Lloyd one more chance and put her in the Live Shows of The X Factor as one of her four acts in the Girls category.

Cher managed to perform consistently week after week, winning over the judges and the audience at home with her diverse singing style.

The press was full of stories of her backstage diva antics and fighting with the other contestants but the young singer never let it get in the way of her performances.

She will now compete against One Direction, Matt Cardle and Rebecca Ferguson next Saturday and Sunday, December 11 and 12, to be crowned this year’s X Factor winner.
