Going down a Storm: Edinburgh star wows X Factor judges Pic: Talkback Thames
Storm Gardner quite literally caused a storm when he took to the X Factor stage on tonight’s show.
Whilst blowing Cheryl Cole and Louis Walsh away with his powerful rock voice, Simon Cowell couldn’t quite get his head around the 37 year olds name.
Sounding more like a Gladiator than a singer, Storm explained he had changed his name to give him a stronger identity and help him stand out in the competitive music industry. Well, it certainly did that tonight, but not for the right reasons.
Simon Cowell refused to call the Edinburgh born singer Storm, instead referring to him by his birth name, Lee.
But it wasn’t only his strange name Mr Cowell wasn’t a fan of. He stopped him half way through his first audition track telling him it was all wrong.
Storm had travelled all the way from LA to perform his version of The Police’s Every Breath You Take, but it looked like he had made a major dent on the carbon footprint for nothing.
All was not lost though and Simon found it in his heart to give him another shot, telling him to choose a track he could sing like he’s never sung before (oh the drama).
Storm sang U2’s Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For and Simon was spotted singing along.
Cheryl and Louis gave him a definite yes and Simon grudgingly admitted the guy’s got talent, despite protesting his name was still a problem.
Storm will now join the host of Scottish acts heading to Boot Camp, including Stephen Hunter and early favourite, Gamu Nhengu.
