Who can forget (try as they might) the X Factor sensation Jedward? It looks as though the Irish twins might have some rivals for their pop throne with the arrival of French hotties Twem.

In week three of the auditions, Louis gave what turned out to be an almost prophetic statement: “It’s London, we’re looking for talent. I just want something different, something that’s going to sell records. You know – I’d even settle for a new set of twins!”

With more twins auditioning than ever before Jedward have certainly left their mark on the competition, and just as the judges were beginning to tire of seeing double, France’s answer to Jedward, Twem, arrived.

Dressed in chic outfits Twem are twins Samir and Medhi who travelled all the way from Paris to try and impress the judges.  They told Dermot: “We’re Twem. Twem means twins in Arabic, and also lucky.”  But with Simon still sore over Jedward would their name spell lucky for these singing hopefuls?

Talking to Dermot backstage they continued “We have come from Paris especially for the audition – especially for The X Factor. I don’t know what Simon, Cheryl or Louis will think about Twem, but I hope that they will like. We are determinated! [sic]”

The French brothers performed an entertaining version of Let’s Dance by Lady Gaga that got the London crowd dancing.  Cheryl commented: “You’re like the Parisian John and Edward.”  The Fight For This Love star said of their performance: “Not the best vocals but there’s something likable and infectious and cute about you, and I enjoyed it for all those reasons.”

Simon, firmly in the anti-Jedward camp, said to rival judge Louis: “This is the effect you’re now having on Europe and that is a terrifying thought.”  Predictably Louis replied: “Simon they’re entertaining.  Everybody loves them here” giving us all a sense of déjà vu; could this be le nouveau Jedward?

Simon certainly thinks so saying: “The two monsters you created are now spreading across Europe. Here it comes back again!”  Remembering his Jedward nightmare he gave Twem a pre-emptive no earning him a wave of boos from the London crowd.

It was left to Cheryl to give the deciding vote saying: “Music is all about having fun and enjoying yourself, and you thoroughly brightened up my day”.  Her vote puts the twins through to bootcamp.

Twem’s success comes just days after a debate raged over the use of auto-tune technology with Louis admitting to The Sun: “I wish I'd done it last year with Jedward…It might have helped - I might have won the show.”

The French fitties said they came to the London auditions “because UK is hot spicy!” but can they bring a certain je ne sais quoi to The X Factor or will it be au revoir?
