Simon Cowell has fired the opening salvos in a new ratings war with rival talent show Strictly Come Dancing, according to a report.
The entertainment mogul has suggested that BBC bosses need to reschedule their show to an early afternoon slot.
The cheeky 50-year-old has claimed that the ballroom show is watched by an audience of "old people" who would prefer to watch the programme earlier in the day.
Cowell is reported in the Daily Star as saying: "They should put Strictly on a bit earlier in the afternoon as their audience is older.
"Then they can have a nap afterwards if it finishes at six."
Simon has insisted that he does not understand why BBC bosses have insisted on going head-to-head with The X Factor.
He moaned: "As far as I am concerned there is only one good show a week, which is ours, and then you have got Strictly, which some people like.
"If they are first and second, why would you want to put them on at the same time?
"That is being pathetic, childish and doing a disservice to people who pay the licence fee.
"We don't pay the licence fee for people to play games with ratings."
He added: "It is utterly wrong but they have this obsession with competing with us."
