Money grabbers? Adrian denies that he and Christine moved to Daybreak because of the cash on offer Pic: ©ITV
Daybreak host Adrian Chiles has denied that he and fellow presenter Christine Bleakley moved from the BBC to ITV because of the megabucks deal the channel was offering.
The pair both quit The One Show on the BBC several months ago to launch the new programme, which replaces GMTV.
But Adrian has angrily denied they were motivated to jump ship by the money the rival channel was offering, as implied by reports in the press.
The presenter told The Sun: "There was no suitcase of money offered. I resented it being portrayed like that because it makes us look money-motivated and greedy, and neither of us are any of those things.
"No-one wants anything to end in bitterness. What has been slightly rewritten - and I am annoyed about it - is they have tried to rewrite it as a classic big money move to ITV and nothing could be further from the truth."
Adrian is picking up a reported £6million deal with ITV, while Christine has secured a rumourd £2-£4million. The new show, which launches this Monday, September 6, runs from 6am-8.30am each weekday morning, and will feature a mixture of hard-hitting news investigations and celebrity interviews.
Current GMTV presenter John Stapleton will continue on the show taking on the role as special correspondent, while Kate Garraway will be the new entertainment editor.
Scottish presenter Carla Romano will not be moving to Daybreak, as she wishes to remain living in LA, while other current GMTV presenters Emma Crosby, Andrew Castle and Ben Shephard have also left the show.
