X Factor return: will Shirlena be back? Pic: ©TalkbackThames
Axed X Factor star Shirlena Johnson might be reinstated on the show after it was revealed that Simon Cowell has decided to get a second medical opinion on the state of her health.
The 30-year-old mum was dropped after it emerged she failed to reveal details about the state of her mental health. Psychiatric experts described her as a “ticking bomb” and said that she might not be fit to look after her three-year-old daughter.
However Simon Cowell – who was a big fan of Shirlena’s alternative, wailing rendition of Duffy’s Mercy – is said to have had second thoughts about getting rid of the contestant, according to New! magazine, and now wants to see if there is any way she could return.
Cowell is quoted in the glossy mag saying: "It was regrettable that we had to lose such a popular performer as Shirlena in these circumstances but the advice we got was that we should not let her continue.
"But I'd maybe like to get a second opinion so we are absolutely sure that she should no longer be part of the show.
"I still think it is very upsetting that she will no longer be able to make some money for herself and her daughter because of this." He added: "But obviously we have to be responsible and the welfare of our contestants is of paramount concern."
Just a few days ago Simon said that he’d “love” to reinstate Shirlena but hand were “tied” in the matter.
