X Factor judge Gary Barlow showed his soft side during last night’s Live Show when he sympathised with Lucy Spraggan over the loss of her grandmother.
Lucy’s beloved gran Marjorie passed away in her sleep last Sunday night after recently suffering from ill health, and the brave singer still managed to get up on stage and sing her heart out, leading to praise from Gray for her efforts.
“Lucy, well done,” he said. “I know how physically and emotionally draining a loss can be.
“Sometimes the only answer can be to get back on stage and do your thing.”
Lucy has been too upset over her grandmother’s death to stay with her fellow X Factor contestants and has been spending as much time as she can with her grandfather James.
Speaking to The Sun about her loss, Lucy said: “My nanny was a great woman and she and granddad were together for more than 50 years so I really want to be around to support him and my family at this time.
“My granddad is an amazingly strong and kind man and they loved each other very much. She’s at peace now and that’s comforting to know.
“She was so proud to see me singing and I’m glad I made her smile. She’ll be greatly missed.”
Take That star Gary received messages of support and admiration from several high-profile stars after performing at this year’s Olympics closing ceremony just a few days after the tragic loss of his daughter Poppy, who was stillborn.
