After 30 years of hard work in her local community, lollipop lady Helen Barr has finally been rewarded on the day of her 70th birthday.
The proud granny was surprised by The Hour presenter Michelle MacManus, who visited the one in a million youth worker on her Friday morning lollipop shift in Clydebank.
As well as working for 25 years as a local lollipop woman, Helen has devoted her life to working with local youth groups, and she now has a legion of fans who nominated her for The Hour’s One in a million award.
On receiving her award, Helen said: “I hadn’t a clue. It’s a total shock; in fact it’s more than a surprise. I’ve spent most of my life doing youth work and we’ve had great fun.”
Helen’s daughter Sonya believes her mum’s award is long overdue, and she more than deserves her moment of glory.
“She’s just wonderful,” said Sonya. “She’s been one in a million to our family forever.
“All the local children love her, even the rascals! They have nothing but good things to say about her.”
Michelle is now looking for her next community star, and if you know someone who is making an unsung difference to their community please contact the One in a Million team on 0800 959 6161.
