This year's X Factor winner may provide Simon Cowell with his last opportunity to win the coveted Christmas number one, according to a report.
Sources told a tabloid newspaper that the winner of next year's contest will be unable to take the festive slot with their debut single.
An insider told The Sun that the launch of the planned US version of the reality TV singing contest franchise will delay the start to the UK series until November.
The grand final of the contest would then be scheduled to conclude in March of 2012, meaning that the show would no longer be involved in the annual battle to capture the Christmas number one.
Last year's winner Joe McElderry failed to take the festive number one slot following a social media campaign.
A group of campaigners launched a Facebook group to successfully lobby for Rage Against The Machine to take the Christmas number one in protest over the influnece of Simon Cowell on the choice of music available to the record-buying public.
X Factor winners to have claimed Christmas number one singles include, Shayne Ward, Leona Lewis, Leon Jackson and Alexandra Burke.
