Cheryl Cole has blasted Simon Cowell after he publicly welcomed her back to The X Factor - by making it quite clear that she’s not returned to the show for him.

It recently emerged that the Geordie beauty had been drafted in by Gary Barlow as his helper at the Judges’ Houses stage, to help him whittle down the hopefuls.

And after the news emerged, Simon quickly took to Twitter to welcome Chezza, who used to be a judge on the show, back, writing: “Welcome back Cheryl X.”

But the Geordie star - who fell out with Cowell after he axed her from her new role on X Factor USA last year - is clearly not forgetting their very public feud just yet…

Speaking to The Sun, the 29-year-old beauty said: “I saw Simon’s Tweet. I’m not doing this for him. I am doing it for Gary as he’s my friend and he asked me to do it.”

Gary and Cheryl became close after the pair climbed Mount Kilimanjaro to raise funds for Comic Relief alongside other stars back in 2009. They also performed together at the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Concert outside Buckingham Palace this summer.

Simon was reportedly desperate to sign Cheryl back up to The X Factor’s UK show this year, but the Under The Sun singer said she had moved on and wouldn’t be making a comeback.

It looks like Gary managed to twist her arm though, as the singer joined Gary at stately home Broughton House in Northamptonshire at the weekend to help him narrow down the singers in his group – something she has plenty of experience with following her time on the UK show.

Arriving at the stately home, a stylish Cheryl - who was dressed in clingy white dress - told the contestants: "I've been in both positions. I've been here and I've been on your side so I know how you are feeling. I'm just so excited to be here. I wish you all the best of luck."

And it seems Chezza certainly impressed the Take That star, with Gary taking to Twitter to write: “Thank you @CherylCole for all your help this weekend. The contestants and I loved having you there xx.”
