Meet X Factor sensation Melanie Masson’s TV star husband Forbes

Scottish singer Melanie blew away judges with her performance on The X Factor which was screened at the weekend.

The 44-year-old left the judges stunned with her amazing rendition of Janis Joplin’s Cry Baby and managed to bag herself a place at Boot Camp.

However, years before her appearance, her hubbie Forbes Masson was appearing on STV as part of duo ‘Victor and Barrie’ alongside future Hollywood star Alan Cumming – watch their fantastic early performance in the video above.

Masson and Cumming went on to write fondly remembered The High Life, a BBC sitcom where the outrageous lead characters were heavily based on Victor and Barry.

The pair – Alan and Forbes, that is – met at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in 1982, where they created Victor and Barrie. They were nominated for a Perrier Award – now the Foster’s Comedy Award – at the Edinburgh Fringe in 1988.

From Falkirk, Masson has gone on to have a career in theatre. He has been in The Royal Shakespeare Company acting ensemble from 2003 to 2011, is an Artistic Associate of The National Theatre of Scotland, has written and composed a series of Scottish musicals and also wrote alternative Christmas Pantomimes from Glasgow’s Tron Theatre.

Meanwhile, his wife Melanie started her musical career when she was 15. However, after landing herself a record deal when she was 26 she was subsequently dropped, she took a break from music – getting married and having children.

Now she’s back in the limelight, and you can tune into STV to find out how she gets on in The X Factor’s notorious boot camp in the weeks to come...
