Are you a budding or established comedy writer? Fancy a go at writing funny, sharp and inventive comedy, to be included in a brand new STV sketch show, online and on-air?

Today, STV launches a nationwide search for talented comedy writers to join the writing team of an innovative, new cross-platform comedy project.

Whether you are a promising new talent or an already established writer, this is an unmissable opportunity for anyone who wants to share their comedy writing skills with STV audiences, on air and online, across Scotland, the UK and internationally.

The successful writers will create material for a series of comedy sketches which will be produced for publication on STV’s network of websites later this year. The most popular sketches, determined by a public reaction online, will be developed for a television programme for STV.

In a unique collaboration between STV’s digital and on-air channels, this is the first time stv.tv has commissioned programme content specifically for distribution online, with a view to develop it for on-screen transmission on STV.

Bobby Hain, Managing Director of Broadcasting at STV, said: “STV has a great heritage of comedy production and we’re thrilled that this exciting new project will bring brand new comedy to our viewers. We’re looking for the very best of Scottish writing talent so if you think you have the razor sharp wit of Armando Iannucci or you're shaping up to be the next Mitchell and Webb, we want to hear from you.”

Alistair Brown, Head of Digital at STV, added: “The digital publishing platform we have established at stv.tv, combined with agreements we are putting in place to expose our content globally, means we are entering a very exciting phase in the development of our business. We can now take high quality content produced in Scotland and deliver it to our audiences globally. We also think audiences will like this new opportunity to help showcase talent and select the comedy they want to see.”

The series will be produced by Glasgow based production company, Incorporated Media.

Producer Kim Kinnie said: “There is a wealth of comedy talent in Scotland and we hope this exciting multimedia production for stv.tv and STV will bring out the very best our country has to offer. Whether you’re an established writer or just fancy a go at writing new, funny, smart sketch comedy, we want to hear from you.”

Writers's Brief
/comedy  is an innovative approach to the development of comedy in this multi platform new media world.
Sketches will be uploaded to STV’s new comedy website and the very best of these will then go on to form the core of a one hour television special.

We are looking for short, fast paced sketches requiring minimal props/makeup that can be filmed in everyday locations. Strong, returning characters are welcome, as are series of sketches around a specific location. This is a great chance to gain global online exposure through STV’s dedicated comedy site.

All sketches used online will be fully credited and a writer’s page will allow for links to homepages, websites or social networking sites. As a shop window for your writing talent this is a tremendous opportunity to have your work professionally performed, filmed, edited and broadcast online, with the best sketches going on to the television special.
